By Zhang Mingming and Wang Fenglan

The practice of gynaecology at the Bamboo Forest (also known as Bamboo Grove) Monastery began in the Eastern Jin dynasty (317-420) and flourished during the Song dynasty, but the details regarding the outstandingly effective formulas used by the monks at the monastery became public only in the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
