In the interests of helping medical practitioners remember medical teachings, classical Chinese medical texts were sometimes written in the form of mnemonic verse coupled with detailed commentaries (zhu). One classical text in which this form can be found is the Yi Zong Jin Jian (Medical Ancestry’s Golden Mirror) by Wu Qian published in 1742.
